Artist Statement
My work explores psychology and how people construct meaning, specially on the aftermath of displacement, isolation and loss, as well as the important role that Art plays on mental health.
Drawing is both a discipline and a way of thinking. Through obsessive repetition, densely detailed compositions gradually emerge, allowing complex emotional states to take physical form. Individual works are conceived as parts of larger bodies of work, where symbols evolve over time and familiar elements return with new meanings.
Although rooted in personal experience, the work deliberately resists autobiography. Instead, it seeks a dreamlike space where individual memory becomes collective, inviting viewers to navigate narratives that remain intentionally open. Influenced by the visual directness of Brazilian cordel traditions as much as by european surrealist image-making, I am interested in constructing fictional worlds that feel psychologically true rather than literally real.
Whether through drawing, painting, photography or installation, each project expands the same ongoing investigation: how images can transform grief, memory and resilience into places that can be entered, inhabited and revisited.
